Background: Son of former President, integrated into the company at a very young age. The former Shinra had Rufus put into the company database the day of his birth, fully expecting the child to take over to company for him when he became too old to handle to position. Rufus has been raised in the ShinRa HQ, and has thus grown into his position and his role. Due to early exposure, the younger Shinra has a great deal of knowledge and experience with the existing staff and regulations.

At the age of six, Rufus received his pet, the beast [ref: Guard Hound] known now as “Dark Nation.” [ref: Subject #8629] The animal served as Rufus’ personal bodyguard and companion, willing to risk its life for its master and playing an integral part in whom the young Shinra choose to associate with. Since the death of "Dark Nation", the creature has been replace by "Elysium". [ref: Blood Taste][ref: Subject #12334]

Upon the age of sixteen, Rufus left the ShinRa buildings to take a multiple-year-trip funded by his family’s fortune. There are no records of this trip other than a noted early return in the middle of his 17th year, from which he retook his vice president position immediately.

Very shortly after the younger Shinra’s return, the elder fell victim to homicide. [ref: employee file: #488, SEPHIROTH][ref: incident report: #2261] This death has prompted the young Rufus to take control of the company, where he now resides.
